Tips and Tricks on Coming Up With A Good Game Idea

Hello guys,
I've been having many, many questions recently. These questions asked were something like "I'm a great builder! But I just can't come up with a good idea for a game!" Well that's what these Tips and Tricks are for.

Be original
Sometimes when people want to think of a good game idea they end up falling in to the trap of "re-making" a game, weather that's a certain type of obby or a certain type of tycoon, you name it, people just find it hard to come up with new game concepts and ideas.

So be original, think long and hard with what your game will be and check to see that NO ONE ELSE has made it before you.

Originality is one of the most important keys to getting a very popular game.

For example: Look at the user: TheGamer101.
He made a very original game called "Sword Fighting Tournament." His game has had a place on the 1st-2nd page almost EVERY DAY! That's because he took a classic (sword fighting) and turned into into a big hit!

Now players from all around roblox are trying to make Sword fighting tournament games, but they're all not succeeding as being as good as TheGamer101's original.

That's just ONE example of an original game that's got very popular. So, be original and creative!

Follow the Rules!
As much as you'd want to make a game of a recent disaster that's happened say, on the news. People could get VERY offended by the game, considering that many families may have been a part due to the terrible disasters that go on in the world. So I recommend NOT making a game of a real life event, or it's almost certain that your game will be found and deleted by the crack squad of moderators patrolling constantly round the site, to ensure that everyone stays happy!

Rules: A ROBLOX place may not be realistically violent, horrific, gory, bloody, morbid or in any way sexual. The place may not contain swearing or break any of the other rules of ROBLOX. Additionally –

* No natural disasters from within the last 2 years
* No Terrorism
* No Nazis
* No wars (or military conflicts) from within the last 10 years
* No contests
* No dating
* No marriage and family roleplay

See some examples of places that are and are not OK: http://roblox.zendesk.com/entries/221899

Make sure to back up your place using the “File > Save As” menu link in ROBLOX Studio; this way, if your place is deleted on the ROBLOX website your work is not totally lost. It is possible the place just needs a minor change to be appropriate – if so, you make the required change and re-publish it.

Pick something fun!
When coming up with an idea, you may come up with things that are in GREAT interest to YOU. But you have to think OUTSIDE the box, think what other robloxians would think of the concept of your game. What would they find fun? Ask yourself these questions before pinpointing it down to a final idea!

Can you make it? Do you need Help?
It's all good coming up with an epic game idea and everything. But can you make it? Do you have the building/scripting skills to make the game? Be realistic because if you spend tons of time building a game then realise that you have NO CLUE how you are going to script it, then you've wasted a lot of time. The same could happen the other way, your super good at scripting, but what if you don't have the building skills to go with your scripts?

Can you get help? Yes! There's a great roblox wiki with many answers to building and scripting. You can find it here!

With building you could make a personal sever, then your friends can work on the building with you, so then your low building skill can be improved by building with your friends!

What if your a pro in building and scripting? GO FOR IT! Do your very best! Roblox players would LOVE to see what awesome games you can make with your skill, who knows? You may even get to the 1st page of games with 1,000's of players on your game EVERY day!

I hope these tips and tricks have come in useful. If you have any more questions feel free to tweet me them or post them in the comments of this post!
